1. What is the Men’s Senior / Adult Baseball League?
Using the motto "Don’t Go Soft, Play Hardball", The MSBL and the MABL are the national organizations representing over 280 individual hardball leagues formed to promote adult baseball and fraternity among men throughout the United States and other countries, for men 40 & Over, 30 & Over and 18 & Over. For 1997, the MSBL/MABL national membership is at 40,000. MSBL began in 1986 on Long Island with four teams, and due to significant national media attention (Sports Illustrated, Today Show, Good Morning America, USA today, etc.) our league has expanded at an unprecedented rate for an amateur organization.
2. What is the organizational structure of MSBL/MABL?
The national organization has worked to initiate and develop the majority of our existing leagues. Many leagues had already existed and have aligned and affiliated with the MSBL and MABL. Each league has its own president and, if it so desires, a Board of Directors. The national organization is here to help support each league in several ways, but does not dictate individual league policy or procedure. MSBL has set the precedence with national rules and by-laws but individual leagues can deviate as they see fit.
On a national scale, there exists a National Board of Directors and Board of Advisors, that meet annually and collectively to help decide issues, rule amendments, and other matters that need addressing.
MSBL, in addition to the national President, has a salaried Vice-President, administrative staff, international director, tournament director, public relations director and magazine staff.
3. What does it cost to belong to MSBL?
To become a MSBL/MABL sanctioned league, each league player must remit an annual membership fee. For MSBL (30 & Over) there is an annual per player registration fee of $20.00, which, among ail other listed benefits, includes four issues of our organization's national magazine, Hardball, each year. MABL (1 8 & Over) leagues may wish to opt for two issues of Hardball per year, with the annual national registration fee costing $16.00 per player. At least 80% of the MSBL/MABL leagues have opted for a four issue format.
4. What do we get for our affiliation and why is it beneficial to belong to the Men's Senior/Adult Baseball League?
There are many membership derived benefits available to you as an MSBL/MABL league member. Included in your registration fee:
Remembering that the national organization was begun in 1988, MSBL has made great strides to directly benefit not only leagues and teams but all individual players as well. As our national organization grows, so too, will access to more affiliation benefits.
